Discovery Channel Telescope

(4.3m telescope at Lowell Observatory, Arizona)

The Discovery Channel Telescope is a 4.3m Optical/Near Infrared (NIR) telescope at Happy Jack, Arizona, operated by Lowell Observatory. It was partially funded by the Discovery Channel, thus the name. The telescope site is 40 mi from Flagstaff, is at a dark sky site in Coconino National Forest and is at an elevation of 2360m. Its first light was in 2012. Instruments:

  • LMI - Large Monolithic Imager.
  • NIHTS - Near Infrared High Throughput Spectrograph.
  • DeVeny Spectrograph.
  • RIMAS - Rapid Infrared Imager-Spectrograph.
