extremely red object

(ERO)
(class of galaxies showing more infrared than visible light)

An extremely red object (ERO) is a galaxy that is fainter in visible light than infrared. Presumably this is found through photometry: they are considered to be at a substantial redshift and/or to be dusty starburst galaxies. The term a hyper extremely red object (HERO) has been used for a subset of EROs that are even more conspicuous in this regard.
