Galactic Binary

(system of two object co-orbiting in the Milky Way)

The term Galactic Binary is used for a binary pair of objects (co-orbiting) within the Milky Way, typically used when discussing particular types of binaries such as Compact Object binaries, or more specifically, Black Hole binaries. Given Gravitational Waves and other phenomena observable at inter-galactic distances, black hole binaries in other galaxies are of interest, but for typical (e.g., Main-Sequence) Binary Stars, observations beyond the Milky Way are atypical.
