KIC 8462852 (Tabby's Star or Boyajian's Star)
is an F-typevariable star with an unusual pattern of
variation for which there is no fully-accepted explanation.
Brightness dims by as much as 22%, with no repeating pattern discerned.
Among the candidate-explanations is that of an unevenly-distributed
ring.
The F star has a binary companion, an M dwarf,
the projected separation being about 880 AU.
