A luminous red nova (LRN) is a type of observed transient
that has a red coloring, that has been theorized to be the merger
of two stars. The luminosity is less than a supernova but
more than a nova. The light curve shows its own
characteristics, lasting quite some time, and growing
more red and infrared.
