Molecular Cloud Turbulence

(observed turbulence in molecular clouds)

Molecular Cloud Turbulence is Turbulence in Molecular Clouds and Giant Molecular Clouds (GMC). Its observed presence poses puzzles regarding the instigation and maintenance of the turbulence, and what role the turbulence plays in Star Formation (SF).

Turbulence is observed by analyzing the Emission Line width of the "visible" gas in the clouds (tracers such as Carbon Monoxide (CO)). Molecular cloud turbulence is observed to be supersonic.
