(parallel ridges)

Striae (singular: stria) are parallel ridges on something. The term is regularly used in astrophysics to describe observed phenomena comet tails. The term has also been used regarding gas clouds, and also for a protoplanetary disks phenomena occurring in planet formation in the gravitational instability model.
