2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey

(2dFGRS)
(imaging survey of 300,000 extragalactic objects)

The 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey was a 1500-square-degree extragalactic survey covering survey fields around the galactic north and south poles (providing a good view beyond the Milky Way). It was carried out with the 3.9 m Anglo-Australian Telescope (AAT) between 1997 and 2002. Photometer data for 380,000 objects (galaxies, quasars) was collected along with spectroscopic data for 245,000 of them using the telescope's the 2dF multi-object spectrograph. The limiting magnitude was +19.5 covering redshifts to 0.3.
