The Isaac Newton Telescope (INT) is a 2.54-m
reflector telescope at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory (ORM) in the Canary Islands.
It is one of the Isaac Newton Group of Telescopes (ING), which also includes the William Herschel Telescope (WHT).
INT was rebuilt at ORM in 1984 after earlier operation
in England that began in 1967.
Since June 2024, INT has carried out no scientific observation
while the telescope undergoes an upgrade, including new automated
control for robotic operation, and a new high resolution spectrograph for the
Terra Hunting Experiment, HARPS3, which has been physically
installed and is undergoing commissioning.
As of August 2026, plans are to complete this and resume INT
scientific observation by the end of summer, after which
a substantial percentage of IST time will be dedicated to
the Terra Hunting Experiment.
