Atlas 3D (ATLAS3D or ATLAS3D) was a survey of 260 galaxies within 42 Mpc, observing them with multiple filters and telescopes, covering radio-astronomy through visible light. Follow-ups with simulations were carried out to explain the observed stellar kinematics. Study that characterizes these nearer galaxies provides a basis for assumptions regarding more distant galaxies.
