MMX

MMX (for Martian Moons Exploration) is a Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) planned probe of the Martian moon, Phobos. Plans are to launch in 2024, to reach Mars orbit in 2025, to observe and land on Phobos (with a rover), and to send a return capsule to reach Earth in 2029. I presume there will be opportunity for some observation of Mars and the other Martian moon, Deimos. Instruments include:

• TENGOO - Telescopic Nadir Imager for Geomorphology.
• OROCHI - Optical Radiometer composed of Chromatic Imagers.
• LIDAR - Light detection and ranging.
• MIRS - MMX Infrared Spectrometer.
• MEGANE - Gamma-ray and neutron spectrometer.
• CMDM - Circum-Martian dust monitor.
• MSA - Mass spectrometer.

Some previously listed (possibly canceled, renamed, or incorporated into others):

• WAM - wide angle multiband camera.
• MacrOmega - Near infrared spectrometer.
• DCAM5 - Deployable camera.
