3C 273

(first quasar discovered)

3C 273 is the first Quasar (QSO) identified and is the brightest in Visible Light. It has a Jet about 60 kpc in length. It was discovered as a Radio source in 1959, then in visible light in 1963. The host Galaxy is elliptical.
