California-Kepler Survey

(CKS)
(follow-up to Kepler to determine stellar radii)

The California-Kepler Survey (CKS) is an astronomical survey to follow up on Kepler Telescope extra-solar planet discoveries, gathering spectrographic information about the host stars, to help study the planets. Of particular interest is stellar radius determination, because transiting planets reveal the ratio of the radius of the host star with that of the planet, so accuracy in estimating the star's radius improves accuracy of estimating the planet's radius, and using spectrographic data is qualitatively more accurate than using photometric data.

CKS-COOL is a follow-on or second phase, targeting cool stars, e.g., red dwarfs, which are common and are promising in terms of providing observable exoplanets within habitable zones.
