Gliese Catalogue of Nearby Stars

(Gl, Gliese, Catalog of Nearby Stars)
(1950s catalog of stars within 20 parsecs)

The Gliese Catalogue of Nearby Stars (or just Catalog of Nearby Stars) is a catalog, originally a 1957 publication listing stars within 20 parsecs, and later, a 1969 edition that extends the limit to 22 pc. The Gliese-Jahreiss Catalog (GJ) is a subsequent 1991 update/expansion. The catalog's stars remain of interest because their nearness allows better observation as new technology develops, including hunting for and observing extra-solar planets.
