Kepler-16b

Kepler-16b is a giant extra-solar planet orbiting a binary star, a circumbinary planet (i.e., in orbit around the pair). The stars, Kepler-16A and Kepler-16B are a K dwarf and an M dwarf, orbiting each other at about 0.2 AU with a period of about 41 days. Planet characteristics:

• Host star system: Kepler-16 aka KOI-1611.
• Discovery: by the transit method in 2011.
• 75 pc - distance.
• 0.7 AU - orbital radius (semi-major axis).
• 229 days - orbital period.
• 0.75 - radius in Jupiter radii.
• 0.33 - Jupiter masses (roughly a Saturn mass).
• 188 K - temperature.
